How should I preserve my fertilizer plant during the rainy season or winter shutdown?

Proper preservation during long-term shutdown (such as the rainy season or winter off-season) is crucial to prevent equipment damage and ensure a smooth restart. Beidou provides the following expert guidelines based on our extensive experience in global markets.

Main Risks During Shutdown:

  • Corrosion: Fertilizer residues are highly corrosive and will attack metal surfaces if left in contact for weeks.

  • Moisture Condensation: High humidity can cause dampness inside control cabinets, leading to short circuits and damage to precision electronic components.

  • Rubber Aging: Extreme cold or heat can cause rubber seals and hoses to crack and lose their elasticity.

Our Recommended Preservation Steps:

  • Step 1: Thorough Cleaning: Completely empty all hoppers, screw conveyors, mixers, and chutes. Remove all fertilizer residues to prevent chemical corrosion.

  • Step 2: Moisture-Proof Protection: Cover precision units (weighing sensors, control cabinet, PLC, touch screen) with moisture-proof protective covers. Place desiccant bags inside electrical cabinets.

  • Step 3: Release Tension: Release the tension on springs and cylinder components to prevent stress relaxation.

  • Step 4: Anti-Rust Treatment: Apply anti-rust oil to exposed machined metal surfaces and critical joints.

  • Step 5: Periodic Power-On: Every 2 to 3 weeks, power on the system for 1 to 2 hours to dehumidify the electrical components. This is especially important in high-humidity coastal sites in Southeast Asia.
