How to Store Fertilizers Properly

Proper storage is essential to maintain fertilizer quality and prevent caking, nutrient loss, or safety hazards.

1. Keep It Dry
Store fertilizers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Moisture is the main cause of caking and nutrient degradation.

2. Avoid Direct Sunlight
Prolonged exposure to sunlight can break down certain nutrients and damage packaging. Keep fertilizers in a shaded or covered area.

3. Keep Bags Sealed and Off the Floor
Seal opened bags tightly after use. Place them on pallets or shelves instead of directly on the floor to prevent moisture absorption.

4. Avoid Stacking Too High
Excessive stacking can cause bags to compress, harden, and cake. Follow the recommended stack height for each product.

5. Keep Away from Seeds, Feed, and Food

Store fertilizers separately to avoid cross-contamination. Never store them near seeds, animal feed, or human food.

6. Control Temperature and Humidity
Ideally, store fertilizers at moderate temperature and low humidity. Extreme heat or humidity accelerates chemical changes and caking.

7. Use FIFO (First In, First Out)
Use older stock first to avoid long-term storage and nutrient loss. Keep records of production dates and batch numbers.

8. Handle with Care
Wear gloves and masks when handling fertilizers. Keep the storage area clean, locked, and out of reach of children and animals.
